DESTER INDETERMINATE TOMATOES
Dester Tomato
A Regular Leaf, Late Season tomato that is well worth the wait. The story goes this variety came from Germany by Dr Hebert Edgar Dester a doctor from 1926-1974 and was brought to America by his ancestors. In the 1970’s the seeds were shared with his Amish housekeeper Anna. She relocated to Missouri where she then shared the seeds with a local farmer Larry Pierce who introduced them to Seeds Savers. This Indeterminate, Heirloom is a big producer of 1 pound plus red/pink beefsteaks. Be sure to stake your plant well with this one. The flavor has a nice balance and old timey flavor and is very meaty. You can do alot with this tomato canning, slicing, sauces, also a great market seller. For red tomatoes this is in my top 10.
