Abbattista Paste Tomato

This is an heirloom tomato that was brought to the U.S. when Julia Pentz immigrated before WWII from Yugoslavia. She gave seeds to her brother Anton Fessler. They were eventually handed off from Anton to Michele Abbattista in 1960. Bill received his seed from Michele in 1980 and has been saving seed only from the largest, earliest tomatoes. He named it Abbattista after the family. This is a mid to late season tomato plant (80–85 days) with regular leaves, An indeterminate variety that produce these elongated tomatoes. They have a sweet flavor with barely any acidity. These are also very meaty with few seeds. An excellent fruit for sauces, pastes, and canning.
