Dean’s Chocolate Salty Balls Tomato

A little confusion, not sure if Dean Slater created this, but he did play a part in it. Whether he discovered regular leaf version of Liz Birt Tomato. It is not clear the whole backstory of this variety except the name, growth habits, and stability. A mid-season tomato plant with regular leaf foliage. An indeterminate variety that produce these chocolate brown tomatoes. Our plants got about 5 feet tall. They yielded these fruits with a weight range from 6 ounces to 8 ounces in size. They can be grown in containers too. The tomatoes are juicy and sweet with a touch of saltiness. A great tomato for garnishes, slicing, and canning. If you like this tomato, you may like Dean’s Black Dwarf Tomato. We have a review of Dean’s Chocolate Salty Balls Tomato on our YouTube channel.

Added note — Shelley P Hauser the person who bought the seeds. Dean claimed that it was a purple version of pink PL beefsteak Liz Birt. What grew out was a RL compact bushy plant with medium-sized chocolate (yellow epidermis) oblate slicers with excellent flavor. Since Dean at the time was promoting ‘name your own tomato’ from his unstable seed segregates, I asked some growing friends to help name this fruit. The name credit goes to Ruth Platt for this funny South Park inspired name.
