Description
Dester Tomato
This heirloom tomato came from Germany by Dr. Hebert Edgar Dester (1926-1974) and was brought to America by his ancestors. In the 1970s the seeds were shared with his Amish housekeeper, Anna. She relocated to Missouri where she then shared the seeds with a local farmer, Larry Pierce, who introduced them to Seeds Savers. This is a late season tomato plant with regular leaf foliage. It is an indeterminate variety that is a big producer of these 1 pound plus red/pink beefsteak tomatoes. These delicious fruits are very meaty, balanced, and have an old-timey taste. They could be used for slicing, sauces, and canning. It is in our top 10 red tomatoes. If you like Dester Tomato, you may also like Big Dolly Red Tomato. Be sure to check out our YouTube channel.
