Top 10 Well Known Breeder Tomatoes
The Best Top 10 Breeder Tomatoes Part 1
In this blog, we will explain a list of the top 10 breeder tomatoes that were crossed and stabilized by breeders. On this blog I will start with 5 of my favorite tomatoes from them due to looks, production, and tastes. These tomatoes are Open Pollinated fruits until they are grown out for 50 years. Then, after 50 years, they will be considered an Heirloom.
D.B. Cooper Tomato – These were created by Millard Murdock and are an excellent black heirloom tomato. A great producing plant and is an Indeterminate with Potato Leaf foliage. They produce steady during the season of these large beefsteaks 12-16oz and are great for markets too. The flavor is unique with a smokey and rich flavor to them.
McMurray #10 Tomato – This was created by Dan McMurray, it is an Indeterminate plant. They are a large red beefsteak that does really well at markets due to its size and flavor. These have weights over 1 pound (ca. 454 gram), so be sure to stake your plants due to the weight. A steady producer and the flavor I absolutely love which it is has an old timey flavor with a smokiness to them. These are a winner at the farmers markets.
Sweet Cream Tomato – Developed by Brad Gates, these are a massive producer of these elongated cherry tomatoes. They are sweet and fruity with a creamy aftertaste to them, hence the name Sweet Cream. A tomato to take to the farmers markets and to restaurants due to their looks, taste, and productivity. Definitely can not go wrong with this one.
Wolverine Tomato – Created by Dean Slater, a large bicolored beefsteak tomato. These are a great eye-catching fruit due to the unique color combination. The flavor and production is also good, being juicy, meaty and slightly acidic. Be sure to stake your plants well due to the size and production of these fruits. Another hit at the markets also.
Xanadu Green Goddess Tomato – Created by Blane Horton, this is my favorite green tomato so far. These are a real hit at farmers markets and restaurants once they try them. These have a unique color combination of green and blue with stripes. The flavor is sweet but acidic and very juicy, probably one of the best balanced tomatoes out there. We can not say enough about this fruit, it also has the production to go along with it too. You will not be disappointed with this one, that is why it is in my Top 10.
