Top 10 Well Known Breeder Tomatoes Part 2
In this blog, we will look at our list of the top 10 breeder tomatoes that were crossed and stabilized by breeders. We will start with 5 of my favorite tomatoes from them due to looks, production, and tastes. These tomatoes are Open Pollinated fruits until they reach 50 years old. Then, after 50 years, they will be considered an Heirloom.
Bounty’s Best Tomato – This tomato we worked with over the year, it was a cross of Black Early and Pink Berkeley Tie Dye. These are a heavy producing plant, be sure to stake your plants well due to the number of tomatoes and weights ranging from 6-10 oz. This black fruit has green shoulders to them with an outstanding flavor leaving you wanting more. It is juicy and more on the acidic side for the taste, you can not go wrong with this one for taste and production.
Snow White Cherry Tomato – Developed by Joe Bratka these are one of the sweetest cherry tomatoes out there. They sell out at markets and are very productive during the season to supply markets and restaurants. Another great tomato to let customers try if they are unsure of white tomatoes, once they try them they are hooked. This one our absolute favorite cherry tomato to snack on in the garden while picking because of how sweet it is.
Sungold Select Tomato – There are a few different versions of Sungold tomatoes. There are Sugold the hybrids and there are 3 different dehybridized and stabilized versions. They are Big Sungold, Sungold Select 2Â and this one by Brad Gate’s Sungold Select. In my opinion this is the best by far because of the nice blend of sweetness and citrus almost like an orange. Another cherry tomato that is a great producer for markets and restaurants and to snack on in the garden.
The Fuzz Dwarf Tomato – Developed by Dean Slater, this is a heavy producing dwarf tomato. Also, this is unique being fuzzy hence the name, it almost resembles a peach by the color and being fuzzy. These are sweet but acidic definitely a unique fruit, we really like this one it is not too big and not too small with weights between 3-5 oz great size to cut up in salads and to snack on.Â
Tree Bottom Streaks Tomato – Developed by the late Randy Sine, a large sized striped beefsteak tomato. These are very juicy, balanced and very flavorful. Be sure to stake your plants well with one because of how many these plants produce and the size of these tomatoes. They range in weights from 10-16oz, which makes for a great slicer for sandwiches. Also, they are a big hit at the market once they try them.
