Top 5 Rare Tomatoes of 2022 Season
In this blog, we will be describing our top 5 rare tomatoes we grew. We classify these as rare because these are hard to find anywhere or only a couple places have them. These tomatoes did very well for us during the 2022 season. Below, if you click on the name of the tomatoes, it will take you to that tomato listing. Apple of Peru Tomato
Apple of Peru Tomato –They weigh around about a half ounce each, so they are the smaller cherry tomatoes. But they are packed full of this unique flavor which you would not think would work but does. It tastes like an apple with a slight acidity to them. This is a mid-season variety with regular leaves. An indeterminate tomato that is very prolific and produce these cherries in clusters. Bramki Tomato
Bramki Tomato – A mid-season variety with regular leaves. These tomato plants are an indeterminate and grow about six feet tall. A heavy producer of these large beefsteak tomatoes with a weight average around 14 oz (ca. 529 gram). Be sure to stake your plants well because of the weights and the production of this variety. The flavor of these tomatoes have an old-timey taste to them. Bramki Tomato will make an excellent slicing tomato for sandwiches. They could also be used in sauces too. Cascara Rendidora Tomato
Cascara Rendidora Tomato – This is a rare tomato that originated from South America. A mid-season variety with regular leaves. Also, an indeterminate plant which is an excellent yielding variety. It produces these red beefsteaks fruits weighing from 8 oz-14 oz. These fruits seem to be crack resistant too. They have a nice balance with a hint of a sauce taste to them which is unique. Dwarf Qiyanai Huang Tomato
Dwarf Qiyanai Huang Tomato –This is a compact tomato plant with regular leaves that grows about 2 feet (ca. 61 centimeters) tall. These can also be used in container gardens. A mid-season, determinate plant that produces for about 4-6 weeks but is a heavy yielding plant. They produce these bright orange medium-sized beefsteak tomatoes. The flavor is sweet with a slightly acidic taste. Dwarf Qiyanai Huang Tomato could be used for slicing, salads, or garnishes. Tasmanian Yellow Tomato
Tasmanian Yellow Tomato –This is a rare tomato that originated in Australia. Tasmanian Yellow Tomato is the original tomato, not to be confused with Tasmanian Blushing Yellow Tomato, which is a sport version. These are a mid-season variety with regular leaves. They are an indeterminate plant that produces these yellow beefsteak tomatoes with some antho on the shoulders. The weight range for this rare tomato are between 5oz (ca. 189 gram) to 8oz (ca. 302 gram). A juicy and sweet tasting tomato with little to no acidity.
