How We Organize and Store Our Seeds

How We Organize and Store Our Seeds
In this blog, we will discuss organizing our tomato seeds. Along with how we store our seeds. Let’s start with how we organize our tomato seeds.
Organizing Our Seeds
During the season when the seeds dried completely. We put them into 2×3 plastic bags along with the tag when they were picked with the date on them. We purchase these bags from eBay 10,000 for around $40.00. When the season finished, we put them all in alphabetical order by the varieties of piles. Examples a the A’s under A and say all The Aussies together in that pile and then say all the Australian Beauty packs in a pile under A also. We do this for the whole alphabet. Next we get binders with baseball card sleeves and start putting them into the binders and organize the dates at this time also. So August of that season for the kind goes first and September will go last and some are doubled up in the sleeves, but we only use one side of the sleeves per variety. We do not put 1 facing one way and another on the back side of the same slot facing the other way.
Listing and Organizing
Now we start listing everything I have from the season. While we are listing, we create a SKU for each item. Then we put some seeds in a container with the SKU on top of the container and the name of the variety on the container. We also put the SKU on the leftover seeds in the 2×3 bags. Along with doing this, we take my books out of alphabetical order and have them organized by SKUs like a warehouse does. So when we run out of seeds in our containers, we go and get them out of my books by SKU number. Also, we double-check the names when orders come in by the SKUs and the names, since they are both on the containers and in my books.
How I Store My Seeds
We store our extra seeds in the freezer. The reason for this is that they can last for multiple years like this without dropping their germination rates. The seeds we have in our containers we are kept in a cool dark place and the containers are inside Styrofoam also, so no light can get in. When we run out of seeds in my container, we go to the freezer and refill the container and keep filling orders.
We hope this organization process will help after harvesting your seeds. Along with how to store your seeds once organized.
Happy Growing
