What Tomatoes Did Good For Us At Market
What Tomatoes Did Good For Us At The Market 2021
In this blog, we will discuss the larger tomatoes that did well for us at the farmers market. We will have another blog about cherry tomatoes that did well for us also. Let’s get started with these 4 tomatoes, which were our top market sellers in 2021.
Zebra Ezel Tomato
Zebra Ezel – This is the first one of many tomatoes that did well for me at the market this year. Also in my opinion for flavor and looks was in my top 5 for 2021 to grow because of flavor, looks and production. It is a perfect eye-catching tomato for at the markets and has an excellent complexed flavor to it also. I had customers coming back every week for this beefsteak tomato.
Lemon Lean Dwarf Tomato
Lemon Lean Dwarf – A very productive dwarf tomato that produces these nice yellow fruits. These tomatoes are great for snacking on and have a fruity lemon taste to them. Every weekend I took them to the market, we would include some of these as a gift for customers to try. By the end of the summer at the markets, I could not give them to try anymore because I was selling out of them by the end of the day.
Sgt. Pepper Tomato
Sgt Pepper – Another great eye-catching tomato for the markets that seem to draw customers to your booth. This was more for the customers that liked a firm tomato with a bit of crunch to it. At first a few customers liked them and a few did not, but by the end of summer I was sold out by the end of the day. This also held up during the hot days on the table because of the firmness of it. These would not go soft during the hot days, excellent shelf life for the markets. Customers were using these for sandwiches and also canning them for the winter months.
McMurray#10 Tomato
McMurray #10 – This is a large red beefsteak tomato. These did very well for me this year at the farmers market because of the sizes and the flavors of them. Another one of my favorites I grew this year that was in my top 10. The size makes it a great slicing tomato for sandwiches, which customers liked. Also, it was red and most customers that were just used to red tomatoes and not all the different colored and striped ones would buy this one. They kept coming back to get this one because of the smokiness in the taste of it. But when they came back and got this tomato they were willing to try some other kinds and realized it was not what the tomato looked like on the outside, it was the flavor they wanted. So this tomato they would still buy, and I would sell out of also, but it opened the door for them to try the other tomatoes I was selling also.
Every week we added new ones to sell. Also, other tomatoes did very well that customers asked for that we did not grow enough plants of and ran out of. Some tomato plants just could not produce enough that week, so this means next year 2022 we have to plant more plants of certain kinds for the markets. Each tomato has a link, it will take you right to the tomato in the shop, and you can read more about each one there.
