Our 2022 Bean Collection Part 2
This Garden Talk Blog Part 2 is going to be talking about more of the different varieties of beans we are going to grow in 2022. A bit about the beans we will be growing this year. The varieties we chose to grow this year are from years of collecting beans, some of these varieties are hard to find, or only a few others may have them. Hopefully we have a great growing season this year, so we can bring these rare and unique beans to you, our valued customers. Lastly you might want to check out the site in fall of 2022 I might have a few surprises added as well for beans not mentioned in the blogs as well.
Tarahumara Purple Ojo Bean
Tarahumara Purple Ojo Bean– These are a native Heirloom pole bean from Mexico. This pole bean is unique in producing several colored beans in the pods. They can be used as a dry bean, a cooking bean or simply as a decoration in a jar due to all the different colors.
Case Knife Bean
Case Knife Bean– AKA White Dutch, a very old white seeded Heirloom bean. This variety dates back to the 1800s and were in a few publications being called White Dutch and Country Gentleman. Now days they are known as Case Knife or Caseknife. A great bean used for cooking or dried.
North Carolina Greasy Cut Short Bean
North Carolina Greasy Cut Short Bean– A Heirloom greasy bean from North Carolina. These are a white seeded cut short greasy bean. They make for an excellent fresh eating or cooking bean.
Turkey Craw Bean
Turkey Craw Bean– A old Heirloom pole bean founded back in the 1800s. The story goes that this bean found by a hunter inside turkey’s craw hence the name Turkey Craw. These can be used as a dry bean and are also awesome to cook with because of the rich sweet flavor.
Nightfall Climbing Bean
Nightfall Climbing Bean– These are an Open Pollinated pole bean. They make for a great fresh eating or dried bean. The color of these beans when dried are white, black, and speckled.
